3 Jean Harris Books | What Are They?

Jean Harris Books And Their Relevance

Introduction

Jean Harris without a doubt is one of the most bizarre characters which Tarnower met in his life. Surprisingly she has written three books as well. And all of them were written after the passing of Dr Herman Tarnower. If you feel interested to know more about her as a person, then you should read them.

So without any further adieu, allow us to talk about them.

They Always Call Us Ladies

They Always Call Us Ladies

When she was incarcerated in the prison for the murder of her lover Dr Tarnower, Jean Harris wrote this book which has stories from the prison.

She has tried to shed some light on the condition of women that are sentenced to jail.

Although she was later released after getting clemency from the NY Governor, she did spend a considerable amount of time in Bedford Hills Correctional Facility.

Stranger in Two Worlds

Stranger in Two Worlds

This is kind of an autobiography that Harris wrote. Doing this was necessary as she wanted the people to know her as a person as well. She did raise the issues related to the children of prison inmates in this book as well.

Critics of the book, however, argue that she tried to not accept the responsibility which she should have for the murder of Dr Herman and that she has tried to malign Miss Lynn Tryforos.

However, you should read it if you want to know how Jean saw the world around her from her perspective.

Marking Time: Letters from Jean Harris to Shana Alexander

Marking Time: Letters from Jean Harris to Shana Alexander

This book is far more personal as it contains handwritten letters from Jean to journalist Shana Alexander. In them, she has told the sufferings of women inmates and her personal thoughts.

It is rarely observed that a person who is convicted raises questions on the unfair treatment of fellow inmates. They are a must-read for those who wish to generate awareness amongst the general public.

Also, these letters will give the reader a perspective on how her life in Bedford Hills Correctional Facility was affected during her stay there.
